HISTORICAL FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ETHIOPIA


Ethiopia is an East African country in which one of the four Biblical Rivers, the world's longest river know as the River Nile /Ghion/, originates.

It is the original cradle of Human being in which the globally known Australopithecus African, “Lucy” is found.


Ethiopia was one of the leading civilized nations know for its prosperity and architectures. There was a time when coins were minted of pure gold.


The Name "Ethiopia" has been mentioned 42 times in the Holy Bible. Ethiopia also remains as a blessed land where the Garden of Aden /the Paradise/ is located.  The Ethiopian Queen, the Queen of Sheba, visited King Solomon in Jerusalem, and has got a son named Menilik from him. Menilik returned back to Jerusalem to visit his father at the age of 22. He brought the Ark of the Covenant to Ethiopia with other Judaic ritualistic objects and religious books including the book of Eunuch, a book never found in any part of the world. All these historical treasures make the country the treasurer of the Biblical mysteries.

Ethiopia is known not only for preserving Judaic religious values such as worshiping the One True God of Abraham and possessing the Ark of the Covenant for centuries, but the nation was also able to receive Christianity in advance in 34 AD by the Ethiopian Eunuch (Act 8:26). Ethiopia is an old kingdom founded 3000 years ago in East Africa known to be in history the only African country never colonized by any of the European colonizers. Remember the Queen of Sheba and the battle of Adwa.

Ethiopian culture is dominantly Christian. You can see the celebration of Meskel and Timket national holidays. UNESCO has inscribed Meskel commemoration feast of the finding of the True Holy Cross of Christ on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The same is expected to be for Timket (Epiphany).

Ethiopia is a county where Coffee Arabica, the coffee plant, originates. It was found in a region know as Keffa, and therefore, the state was named Coffee.

Ethiopia is unique in Africa for having its own endogenous language, alphabet, numerical system, calendar, classical music, etc.

As in the case of other countries, Ethiopia has some endemic animals that are not found outside of the country.

"He can no longer have God for his Father, who has not the church for his mother. If anyone could escape who was outside the ark of Noah, then he also may escape who shall be outside of the church" (St. Cyprian of Carthage).
